The MK Density Index System is a molten aluminum quality measurement solution designed to determine the Density Index (DI), an indicator of hydrogen gas content and overall melt cleanliness before casting.
The system helps die casting and foundry operations maintain molten metal quality, reduce porosity defects, and improve casting performance.
Density Index (DI) is a value that represents the density difference between two molten aluminum samples:
one solidified under atmospheric pressure and another solidified under vacuum conditions.
A lower Density Index value generally indicates cleaner molten metal and lower gas content.
The test is performed by taking two molten aluminum samples. One sample is solidified under atmospheric
conditions while the other is solidified under vacuum. The system then measures the density of both samples
and automatically calculates the Density Index value.
Hydrogen gas and inclusions in molten aluminum can lead to porosity and casting defects.
Regular Density Index measurement enables manufacturers to monitor melt quality before casting,
resulting in improved product quality, reduced defects, and greater production efficiency.
